Field Visit – Magadi Sheep Market 12-07-2024

The field Visit was organised for MCOM students on 12-07-2024. Magadi, a town located in the Bangalore Rural district of Karnataka, is well-known for its agricultural practices and livestock markets. One of the key attractions in Magadi is its Sheep Market, a hub where local farmers and traders come together to buy and sell sheep. Sheep farming is a vital part of the local economy, with sheep providing wool, meat, and milk that contribute to the livelihoods of many families in the region.

The field trip to the Magadi Sheep Market aimed to expose students to the workings of the livestock market, give them insights into sheep farming, and deepen their understanding of its importance in rural economies. The students were given an opportunity to observe the market’s operations, interact with farmers and traders, and understand the various aspects of sheep farming, including breeding, care, and trade.

The field trip to the Magadi Sheep Market provided valuable exposure to the practices, economics, and culture of sheep farming in rural Karnataka. Students not only learned about the sheep farming process but also gained insights into the broader agricultural and economic systems that support rural communities. By interacting with farmers and traders, students developed a deeper appreciation for livestock farming and its significance in both local economies and cultures.

Overall, the field trip enhanced students’ knowledge of agriculture, fostered a greater understanding of rural economies, and sparked interest in entrepreneurship and sustainable practices within the livestock sector
